Summary of Experience in Social Accounting and Audit
My journey as a social accountant to a social auditor has been an enriching experience. While drafting the social accounts for CSIM in 2008, I never thought that CSIM would be leading this initiative in India. I was a novice in the social sector while joining CSIM in 2001, as I had spent over 15 years in the IT sector as an independent software consultant. It was indeed a momentous occasion when I was awarded a professional status as a Social Auditor by SAN, UK in 2009. This would not have happened but for the trust and confidence Mr P N Devarajan, Founder-CSIM, had on me and I am truly grateful to him for recognising my innate abilities and helping me to evolve to this level. His support and the unstinting support I received from my colleagues at CSIM and social auditors from SAN, UK -John Pearce, Alan Kay, Patrick and Mike- have been instrumental in my understanding all the nuances of the social accounting process.
CSIM must be lauded for having incubated SAN, India. Now SAN, India is a project of the Manava Seva Dharma Samvardhani Trust and works as a separate entity. I sincerely hope and pray that we have a pool of over 100 social accountants and social auditors by 2020. I sincerely thank John Pearce & Alan Kay, who have meticulously planned and conceived the SAA framework, to have the faith in us to promote this concept in India.
